FAQ — Apostille Services

Everything you need to know about apostille certificates, processing times, and document requirements.

More FAQs

How long does it take to get a replacement document?

The timeframe depends on the type of document and the issuing authority. Most UK registry offices and institutions issue replacement certificates within 3–10 working days, while some university or company documents may take longer. Once received, 12 Apostilles can handle solicitor certification, apostille, and legalisation using our priority same-day or next-day services.

Can you replace documents issued outside the UK?

We can only obtain replacement documents issued within the United Kingdom. However, if your document was issued overseas and you have a copy, we can advise on legalisation through the relevant embassy or consulate. In some cases, you may need to contact the original issuing authority abroad to obtain a certified copy, which we can then help legalise for use in the UK or internationally.

Will the replacement be accepted for apostille and legalisation?

Yes. All replacement documents we obtain are officially issued and fully recognised by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and foreign embassies. Once you receive your replacement, we can certify it with a solicitor, apply for the UK Apostille, and arrange embassy legalisation where required, ensuring it’s ready for international use.

What if my document is very old or handwritten?

Older or handwritten documents are often not accepted for apostille or embassy legalisation if they don’t meet current official standards. In these cases, we recommend obtaining a newly issued replacement directly from the relevant authority. Our team can help identify which office or institution can reissue your record and manage the process on your behalf, ensuring your replacement is modern, verifiable, and legally valid for submission.
